The "Initiative" Entity

Purpose

This document details the attributes and lifecycle of the "Initiative" entity in the AI Conveyor registry — the primary object of management within the portfolio.

Key ideas

  • Identification and ownership: ID, name, description, owner (business unit/person), sponsor.
  • Stage and stage gate: current stage (Idea / Experiment / Prototype / Production / Business impact), date of the last stage gate, next scheduled stage gate.
  • Assessments and impact: priority (P1/P2/P3), target impact (type, magnitude, currency/units), actual impact after implementation.
  • Relationships: links to data, models, projects; tags (business unit, domain, solution type).

How it works

Each record in the portfolio registry corresponds to an instance of the "Initiative" entity. As an initiative moves through the conveyor, its stage, stage gate dates, and (where needed) impact are updated. Portfolio reports, dashboards, and scoring are built on top of the entity (see portfolio-kpis, initiative-scoring). The field schema can be extended to fit the organization's needs while retaining the minimum set required for stage-gate and value realization.
