AI Initiative Metrics

Purpose

This document details the mechanics of initiative scoring for prioritization: criteria, scales, and how the final priority (P1/P2/P3 or equivalent) is derived.

Key ideas

  • Criteria: strategic alignment, expected economic impact, feasibility (data, competencies, timelines), risks (regulatory, reputational, technical).
  • Scales: each criterion is rated on an agreed scale (for example, 1–5 or low/medium/high); criterion weights for a consolidated score where needed.
  • Final priority: mapping the score onto P1/P2/P3 levels for portfolio and stage gate decisions; in case of a tie — additional rules (for example, strategic priority, timeline).

How it works

Scoring is performed when an initiative is registered and, where needed, at a stage gate (for example, during a portfolio review). The result is recorded in the initiative entity and used in resource decisions. It can be implemented as a checklist, a spreadsheet, or an integration with a portfolio tool.
